Critical analysis of the Doughnut theory from a organization greening and transition management perspective
Authors: Victor Counillon, Clément Morlat, for the Ecological Accounting Chair
Summary: An increasing number of players are calling themselves "doughnut theorists" (Raworth, 2017). It seems necessary to question the relevance of this theory and its operational variations. We therefore offer a critical reading of the way in which the environment is defined, and of the limits to the operational application of certain related concepts and tools.
Here are the two main points:
1) the proposed definition of the environment does not allow us to move away from a centrism or moral center perspective, incompatible with a relational vision of ecology, and
2) the "theory" does not integrate a theory of the organization through its language, accounting, and therefore does not allow us to question business models in depth.
